Lingeletu Jewellery Packaging Cooperative

In 2009 DWDE started working with the House of JD as the company was seeking to outsource its re-packaging of jewellery. DWDE therefore approached its member organisations and a group of people with interest and skills in packaging where established at the premises of Cape Town College in Guguletu. The workers are coming from Guguletu and Khaylitsha and the packaging is now providing an income for up to 20 workers with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities and hearing impairments.

With the support of DWDE five of the workers that have been part of the group from the beginning registered the Lingeletu Jewellery Packaging Cooperative in February 2010. DWDE is also supporting the cooperative through business training, quality control and administrative procedures. The Lingeletu Jewellery Packaging Cooperative is looking for new premises and clients to expand their business and be able to employ more people.
